Welcome to Client Services
Information Technology's Client Services group, also known as 4040, provides technology support to Taylor faculty, staff, students, administration, alumni, and guests of the university (our clients). The 4040 team includes Meghan Corduan, TJ Higley, and a crew of dedicated student technicians.
Can't find what you need on these support pages? Let us know, and we'll be happy to help. You can Request Help by phone, email, web, or by stopping by the Tech Xpress desk on the main level of Zondervan Library.
Windows XP Retirement
Taylor requires that any computing device connecting to its data network be up-to-date with security patches. On April 8, 2014, Microsoft discontinued support for Windows XP. As XP falls out-of-date, it will no longer meet security requirements and will cease to function on Taylor’s network.
Information Technology has been working to identify and upgrade existing, Taylor-owned, Windows XP computers. Most upgrades have been done. The rest will be completed over the summer, as they are found on the network or as they try to connect to the network. If you are aware of any Taylor-owned, Windows XP computers in your area that have not been scheduled for upgrade or replacement, please contact 4040 at your very earliest convenience.
My Taylor University Degree
My Taylor University Degree is brand new software designed to help students track their progress towards graduation. Use it to evaluate a change of major or explore adding a minor. Read the My TU Degree tutorial or visit the My TU Degree Website for more info.
Information Technology has configured university-owned, Windows 7 computers to store user documents on a Taylor server. This makes a manual backup of your Documents folder unnecessary. However, Taylor does not provide server space for the Desktop, Music, Pictures, or Videos folders. Work-related documents currently stored in any of these folders should be relocated or a manual backup routine considered. Contact 4040 for assistance in making sure your important documents are protected.
Windows XP computers continue to store documents on the local hard disk, and 4040 recommends that employees run a manual back up at least weekly. Server space for personal documents such as pictures, music, and videos is not provided by Taylor. Work related documents should be relocated and a manual backup routine used. Contact 4040 for assistance.
Information Technology uses Microsoft’s WSUS patch management solution to deploy security patches to Taylor-owned, Windows-based computers. While the download and installation of most security patches is handled behind the scenes, some patches require user intervention in the form of a computer restart. Read our Windows Patches Tutorial for info on the process.

Many free programs offered for download include undesireable add-ons and plug-ins which can negatively affect the performance of your PC. Some include spyware! Use caution when installing non-standard software.
Taylor provides TOWER Proxy to students and parents for use in accessing student records. Read the TOWER Proxy Page for more information.
